7. Remove insulation from around heater core tubes, then the upper core mounting screw.
8. Using a screwdriver, pry retainer tabs from outer edges of heater housing cover, then remove cover.
9. Remove lower heater core to housing attaching screws, then slide heater core from housing.
10. Reverse procedure to install.
WITH A/C
Exc. Horizon, Omni, Charger & Turismo
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, drain cooling system and discharge A/C system.
2. Disconnect heater hoses from heater core, then cap heater core tube openings to prevent coolant spillage.
3. Disconnect vacuum lines at engine intake manifold and water valve.
4. Remove right scuff plate and cowl side trim panel.
5. Remove A/C control panel, then the center console, if equipped.
6. Remove forward console mounting bracket, if equipped.
7. Remove center distribution duct, then the demister adapter on Daytona, Lancer, Laser & LeBaron Hatchback.
8. Remove defroster duct from under panel, then disconnect condensation drain tube from engine side of dash panel.
9. Disconnect electrical connectors and control cables from A/C and heater housing.
10. Remove right side cowl to plenum brace, then pull carpet rearward from under unit.
11. Remove A/C and heater housing hanger bracket attaching screw, then the four nuts attaching unit to dash panel from engine compartment.
12. Pull unit rearward so that mounting studs clear dash panel, then carefully remove unit from under instrument panel.

13. Place evaporator heater assembly on workbench, then on 1982 models, remove 1/4-20 nut from mode door actuator arm on top cover. On
1983---88 models, remove actuator arm by squeezing it off its mounting clips.
14. Remove two retaining clips from front edge of cover.
15. Remove two mode door actuator to cover attaching screws, then the actuator.
16. Remove 15 screws securing cover to evaporator heater assembly, then lift off cover.
17. Lift mode door out of unit.
18. Remove screw from heater core tube retaining bracket, then the heater core from evaporator heater assembly.
19. Reverse procedure to install.
