Air/Fuel Mixture: Adjustments

NOTE:  Air cleaner must remain in place and A/C control, if equipped, must be in off position during adjustments. Disconnect air hose between pulse
air feeder and air cleaner at air cleaner, and plug hose. Disconnect wiring harness connector to cooling fan.

1. Remove concealment plug and roll pin from mixture adjusting screw "A", Fig. 40, as outlined under "Concealment Plug Removal".
2. Connect tachometer to engine following manufacturer's instructions. Start engine and run at fast idle until it reaches normal operating temperature.
3. Connect and calibrate a suitable Infrared Exhaust Emission Analyzer to vehicle following manufacturer's instructions, and insert analyzer probe

into tail- pipe.

4. Adjust idle CO level to 0.5% at specified curb idle speed by simultaneously turning idle speed and mixture adjusting screws.

NOTE:  Idle speed screw "B", Fig. 40. is accessible through hole in choke cover plate using a long narrow screwdriver at a 45 angle inwards
(towards carburetor).

5.  After curb idle speed is set, place A/C button in on position and adjust idle speed to 900 RPM by adjusting idle speed-up screw.

NOTE:  Idle speed-up screw "C", Fig. 40. is accessible through hole in choke cover plate using a long narrow screwdriver at a 45 angle
downwards.

6. Stop engine. Reconnect wiring harness connector to cooling fan and reconnect pulse air hose to air cleaner.
