NOTE:
This cold fast idle adjustment procedure applies only to vehicles with the following engine part numbers (last three digits):
Federal:
535, 538, 540, 543
California:
536, 537, 541
These part numbers are found on the top left side of the engine cam cover. Also, these engines are equipped with 180~F thermostats.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Subject model vehicles may exhibit excessive fast idle or very slow idle RPM after cold engine start up.

Adjustment Procedure
This adjustment requires the use of a new Miller Special Tool #C-4812 (Figure 1), which is included in the 1983-1/2 Miller Special Tool Package
#CPD-83T.
1.
Start engine and allow to come to full operating temperature, which can be determined by observing the radiator fan starting to operate with A/C
turned off.
2.
Install tachometer.
3.
Allow cooling fan to turn off. Fan should not be running during this adjustment procedure..
4.
Disconnect the vacuum advance hose at distributor diaphragm and plug hose.
