SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Subject model passenger cars built before October 31, 1983, which have an electronic instrument cluster and electronic voice alert may not give an
audible warning of a low fuel condition. This message should be given when the fuel gauge indicator is on the second (yellow) segment and the low fuel
warning light is illuminated.
DIAGNOSIS
If the above condition is noted, verify that the electronic voice alert is otherwise in working condition. If so, proceed to the repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Remove the glove box and the electronic voice alert module to gain access to the electronic voice alert wiring harness.
2.
Pull the 24-pin multiple wiring connector from the electronic voice alert module.
3.

4.
Using a small thin-bladed screwdriver or similar thin, flat tool carefully work the light blue with red tracer (LB/RD*) wire from cavity 14 (Figure
1) of the multiple wiring connector.
5.
Insert the light blue with red tracer (LB/RD*) wire into cavity 6 of the multiple wiring connector (previously not used). Assure that the wire is
properly seated by tugging gently on it. It may be necessary to bend the terminal locking tang in some cases to provide proper terminal retention.
6.
Insert both red retaining wedges into the multiple wiring connector.
7.
Install the multiple wiring connector to the electronic voice alert module.
