Seat Belt: Service and Repair
Front Seat Belts
FRONT SEAT SHOULDER BELTS/BUCKLES REMOVAL
1. If necessary, move the front seat all the way forward for improved access to the lower anchor bolts.
2. Disconnect the shoulder belt warning wire harness connectors.
Left Front Seat Shoulder Belt/Retractor & Buckle
3. Remove the exposed cover retaining shoulder bolts and disengage the cover upper, rear slot from the upper, rear (concealed) shoulder bolt.
Remove the cover for access to the belt/retractor anchor bolts.
4. Remove the belt and retractor anchor bolts from the seat platform.
5. Separate the belt and retractor from the seat platform.
6. Remove the exposed cover retaining shoulder bolts and disengage the cover lower slots from the lower (concealed) shoulder bolts. Remove the
cover for access to the buckle anchor bolt.
7. Remove the buckle anchor bolt and anti-rattle washer from the seat platform.
8. Separate the buckle from the seat platform.
9. Remove the cover concealing the shoulder belt upper anchor bolt.
10. Remove the upper anchor bolt, belt and anti-rattle washer from the roof panel.
11. Remove the shoulder belt/retractor and buckle from the vehicle.
INSPECTION
Inspect the condition of the shoulder belt, retractor and buckle. Replace any belt or buckle that is either cut, frayed, torn or damaged in any way.
Also, replace the shoulder belt if the retractor is either damaged or inoperative.
INSTALLATION
1. Position the anti-rattle washer and the upper end of the shoulder belt at the roof panel with the anchor bolt holes aligned.
2. Install the upper anchor bolt in the roof panel. Tighten the upper anchor bolt with 40 Nm (350 in. lbs.) torque.
3. Position the cover over the upper anchor bolt.
4. Position the shoulder belt-end bracket and re tractor at the seat platform with the anchor bolt holes aligned.
5. Install both anchor bolts in the seat platform. Tighten the anchor bolts with 40 Nm (350 in. lbs.) torque.
6. Position the shoulder belt/retractor cover on the seat platform with the upper, rear shoulder bolt inserted in the cover upper, rear slot. Install the
remaining shoulder bolts into the cover. Tighten the shoulder bolts until the head is "snug" against the cover.
7. Position the buckle at the seat platform with anchor bolt holes aligned.
