If necessary to replace exciter ring on models with anti-lock brakes, the following procedure should be performed after disassembly of the differential.

1. Raise vehicle and remove differential case from vehicle.
2. Using a hammer and drift punch, drive exciter ring from case.
3. Heat replacement exciter ring with a heat lamp or by immersing in a hot fluid. The temperature should not exceed 300 °F (149 °C)

CAUTION: DO NOT USE A TORCH TO HEAT EXCITER RING.

4. Quickly drop the heated exciter ring into place against the shoulder of the differential case.
