Oxygen Sensor Contamination

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Rough running, loss of power. The "Check Engine" light illuminates on 1993 California Emission and all 1994 vehicles. Depending on the vehicle
emissions package, the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes will be set:

Light Duty Cycle - Code 51 (02S Stays Below Center - Lean)

Heavy Duty Cycle - Code 51 (Right 02S Stays Below Center - Lean)

Heavy Duty Cycle - Code 52 (Left 02S Stays Below Center - Lean)

DIAGNOSIS:

Using the Mopar Diagnostic System or the Scan Tool (DRB II) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedure Manual, verify that all engine systems are
functioning as designed. If Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) are present, record them on the repair order for future reference. If codes other than 51 or
52 are present, repair as necessary. If DTC 51 and/or 52 (02S Stays Below Center - Lean) is present and all other systems are functioning correctly,
proceed with the following repair.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This repair involves replacing the oxygen sensor, the speed sensor, and installing a jumper harness (that is designed to prevent the migration of ATF)
between the 02S sensor and the sensor lead wire harness.

1.

Following the procedure outlined in the appropriate service manual disconnect the wire connector from the 02S sensor.

2.

Remove the 02S sensor and replace it with a new sensor (P/N 56005925).

3.

Install Jumper Wiring Assembly (P/N 4773691) between the new 02S sensor and the lead wires to the 02S connector. Verify that the connections
are secure.

4.

Remove the harness connector from the speed sensor.

5.

Remove the speed sensor by loosening the sensor coupling nut from the pinion gear adaptor until the sensor is free.

6.

To install the new speed sensor (P/N 56027825), reverse the removal procedures. Tighten the coupling nut to 17 N-m (150 in.lbs.).
