B350 1 Ton Van V8-5.9L VIN Z (1992)
Cruise
When the engine is at operating temperature, this is a Closed Loop mode. During cruising speed, the following inputs are received by the engine
controller:
^
Coolant temperature
^
Manifold absolute pressure
^
Engine speed
^
Throttle position
^
Exhaust gas oxygen content
^
Park/neutral switch (auto trans)
^
A/C control positions
^
Brake switch
^
Vehicle distance (speed) sensor
^
Speed control
^
Brake switch
^
Overdrive override switch
The engine controller provides a ground path for the injectors to precisely control injectors pulse width. On 5.9L engines, the injectors are fired 4
times per engine revolution. The engine controller adjusts engine idle speed, throttle stop angle, and ignition timing. The engine controller adjusts
the air fuel mixture ratio according to the oxygen content in the exhaust gas.
Acceleration
This is an Open Loop mode when MAP and engine rpm conditions are exceeded. The engine controller recognizes an abrupt increase in throttle
position or MAP pressure as a demand for increased engine output and vehicle acceleration. The engine controller increases injector pulse width in
response to increased fuel demand.
Wide Open Throttle
This is an Open Loop mode. During wide-open throttle operation, the following inputs are received by the engine controller:
^
Coolant temperature
^
Manifold absolute pressure
^
Engine speed
^
Throttle position
^
A/C switch
^
Overdrive override switch
When engine controller senses wide open throttle condition through TPS, it will provide a ground for EGR solenoid and evaporative canister
purge solenoid. This prevents EGR and canister purge functions.
The exhaust gas oxygen content input is not accepted by the engine controller. It will adjust injector pulse width to supply a predetermined amount
of additional fuel.
