Kickdown Band

The kickdown band adjusting screw is located on left side of transmission case, Fig. 24.
1.
Raise and support vehicle, then loosen adjusting screw locknut and back off nut approximately 5 turns.
2.
Turn adjusting screw and check for binding. If screw binds, lubricate threads as required.
3.
Torque adjusting screw to 72 inch lbs. on 1987-88 vehicles or 47-50 inch lbs. on 1989-92 vehicles, then back off adjusting screw 2 1/2 turns.
4.
While holding adjusting screw in position, torque locknut to 30 ft-lbs on all Chrysler vehicles and 1989-92 Jeep vehicles or 35 ft-lbs on 1987-88
Jeep vehicles.
Low Reverse Band

1.
Raise vehicle, drain transmission and remove oil pan.
2.
Loosen adjusting screw locknut and back off nut approximately five turns, Fig. 25. Check adjusting screw for free turning in lever.
3.
Using an inch-pound torque wrench, torque band adjusting screw to 72 inch lbs.
4.
Back off adjusting screw 2 turns on A-727/A-518 transmission models or 4 turns on A-904, A-998, A-999 and A-500 transmission models.
5.
Hold adjusting screw in place and torque locknut.
6.
Install oil pan and add transmission fluid.
