SYMPTOM/CONDITION
When releasing, or after release of the clutch with the transaxle in reverse, on subject models, a chattering feeling and/or sound may occur. This may be
the result of a short or misrouted cable. Use the following diagnosis and repair procedure to correct this complaint.
DIAGNOSIS
1.
Depress clutch pedal fully, place transaxle in reverse, and start vehicle.
2.
Slowly release the clutch while listening and feeling for the clutch chatter.
^
Mild reverse clutch chatter is characterized by a clattering sound from the clutch.
^
Harsh reverse clutch chatter is usually induced by more abrupt clutch engagement, and is characterized by a loud clattering sound from the
clutch, usually accompanied by vibration and/or bucking.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
This procedure involves the inspection and/or replacement of the clutch cable.
1.
Inspect clutch cable to see that its routing is smooth and unimpaired by other components (i.e. wiring harness, fresh air ducts, etc.) so that the
cable operates freely, and correct any interference. Road test for chatter. If chatter persists, proceed to Step 2.
