There are two manufacturers of the overhead console:

the Prince Corporation, which is used in "E", "H", and "S" bodies; and T.R.W,
which is used in "J" body only.

Although made by different manufacturers, both of the overhead consoles function essentially the same. There are some minor physical differences; the
Prince unit has two buttons, while the T.R.W. unit has three buttons. The third button allows the operator to turn the compass and temperature displays
"On or Off" individually.
When the vehicle is first started, the compass display will show the current vehicle heading as one of eight directions; N, NE, NW, E, SE, S, SW, W. The
display will also show the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius by pressing the U.S./Metric button to the right of the display (Prince), or the
center button (T.R.W.). The outside temperature will be displayed in a range of -40~ to 140~ F (-40~ to 60~ C) on the Prince, or -31~ to 131~ F (-35~ to
55~ C) on the T.R.W., depending on the vehicle.

If you get a display reading of "OC" or -31F (-35C) indicating an open circuit, or an "SC" or 131F (55C) meaning a shorted circuit, refer to Section 8E
on Instrument Panel and Gauges, in the appropriate service manual.
