SYMPTOM/CONDITION

These vehicles may exhibit a surge, buck, and spark knock under acceleration and at road load cruise. The condition will be worse anytime the alternator
is subjected to heavy electrical loads.

NOTE:

THIS CONDITION PRIMARILY AFFECTS VEHICLES WITH A 114 AMP ALTERNATOR. HOWEVER, VEHICLES WITH
OTHER ALTERNATOR APPLICATIONS MAY ALSO BE AFFECTED AND SHOULD BE CHECKED AS FOLLOWS IF THEY
EXHIBIT THE ABOVE SYMPTOMS.

DIAGNOSIS

Road test vehicle to verify condition. If the condition is reduced when the alternator field leads have been disconnected, install the driveability kit listed

REPAIR PROCEDURE

This repair involves replacement of the negative battery cable with one which incorporates an alternator ground circuit. This new alternator ground
effectively cancels the magnetic field created by the alternator output wire.
