Wiring Jumper Harness

REPAIR PROCEDURE

This procedure involves installing a resistor (jumper harness) in the D4 circuit. This prevents the SMEC from misinterpreting a momentary loss of
ground, from movement of the turn signal switch, as a brake pedal application.

Two vehicle build conditions exist. Early build (before March 9, 1987) used a wiring jumper to add a 0.33 K ohm resistor from the D4 circuit to ground.
After this point, the resistor was part of the instrument panel wiring harness.

Vehicles Built Before March 9, 1987

1.

Locate and replace the existing jumper harness. The jumper 6-way connectors plug in at the 6-way wiring connector of the stop lamp switch
(Figure 1). The 4-way connectors plug in at the 4-way wiring connector for the power windows and door locks, located in the 25-way connector
(Figure 1). On vehicles without power windows and door locks, the 4-way to body harness has no mate. Tape the jumper harness connector back
to the harness. The 4-way to the instrument panel harness must be connected.

Vehicles Built After March 9, 1987

1.

Separate the stop lamp switch 6-way connector (Figure 1).

2.

Connect the 6-way connectors of the jumper harness to the separated 6-way connectors.

3.

Separate the power window and door lock 4-way connector from the 25-way body connector (Figure 1).

Connect the 4-way connectors of the jumper harness to the 4-way connector of the instrument panel harness and, if the vehicle has power windows
and door locks, to the 25-way connector of the body harness. If the vehicle is not equipped with power windows and locks, tape this connector
back to harness.
