SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Spongy 1-2 or 2-1 (lever tends to spring back) shifts may be the result of the 1-2 shift rail being assembled without oil relief grooves/flats in the case
bore end of the rail. This oil relief groove or flat should be in the opposite end of the rail from the screwdriver slot.
PARTS REQUIRED

Rail Transaxle Gearshift Fork

REPAIR PROCEDURE
This procedure involves repositioning or replacing the shift rail.
1.
Remove gear selector housing and rear cover, using appropriate service manual.
2.
Remove shift rail and verify that it is not installed backwards. The shift rail is installed backward if the longitudinal oil relief groove or flat is in
the bearing plate side of the rail. If this is the case, re-orient the rail so that the relief groove or flat is in the transaxle case bore.
NOTE:
THE OIL RELIEF GROOVE OR FLAT IS NOT THE SAME AS THE SCREWDRIVER SLOT NORMALLY FOUND AT THE
END OF THE RAIL.
3.
If there is no relief groove or flat in the rail, or it is on the same end as the screwdriver slot, then it must be replaced using PN 4471308.
4.
Replace gear selector housing and rear cover, using appropriate service manual.
