Attached is a copy of a letter that is being sent to owners of the subject model vehicles to emphasize proper oil filter usage for the 3.0 liter V-6 engine.

The above referenced bulletins provided the necessary information to all Chrysler Motors dealers in October, 1987.

Please ensure that all Zone and Dealership personnel are aware of this important oil filter replacement information for the 3.0 liter V-6 engine.
IMPORTANT OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT INFORMATION 3.0 LITER V-6 ENGINE

Dear Chrysler Motors Vehicle Owner:

Your satisfaction with the Chrysler-built vehicle you own is very important to us. For that reason, we are providing you with this important engine oil
filter information for your vehicle. When it becomes necessary to replace the engine oil filter, this will allow you to be sure that the replacement filter is
proper for your 3.0 liter V-6 engine.

There are two Mopar replacement filters currently available from Chrysler Motors dealers that are proper for the 3.0 liter V-6 engine.

Part Number 4105409 -- the replacement filter that is specified in your Operator's Manual, and

^

Part Number MD 108063 -- the Mitsubishi original equipment filter that was installed on your engine when new.

Because the 3.0 liter engine is relatively new, most aftermarket filter manufacturers have not yet specified an oil filter for this engine in their catalogs.
This has resulted in some sources other than Chrysler Motors dealerships selling or installing an improper replacement oil filter for the 3.0 liter engine.

We recommend the following action to ensure that you use a proper replacement oil filter for your vehicle:

Purchase or have installed the specified Mopar 4105409 or MD 108063 oil filters.

If you purchase or have installed a filter from an independent aftermarket filter manufacturer that does not yet specify a filter for the 3.0 liter
V-6 engine, select a filter that is equivalent to the Mopar 4105409 filter specified for the Chrysler/Plymouth Dodge 2.2 and 2.5 liter engines.
This filter is smaller than the original equipment filter on your engine, but it fits and is proper for the 3.0 liter engine.

Do not use an oil filter that is specified as the replacement filter for Chrysler's 2.6 liter engine -- this filter is not proper or the 3.0 liter engine.
The 2.6 liter filter attaching thread is a different size and will be loose if installed on the 3.0 liter engine. This will allow an oil leak that can
cause damage to the engine.

If the engine oil warning light stays on (or gauge indicates low oil pressure) for a long period of time after the engine is started or after the
engine has been running, stop the vehicle and shut off the engine. Do not operate the engine again until the cause of low oil pressure has been
corrected.
