Camshaft: Service and Repair
Camshaft Replacement
1. Remove valve cover as outlined under "Valve Cover, Replace."
2. Remove timing belt, sprockets and covers.
3. Bearing caps are identified for location. Remove outside bearing caps L1, R1, L6 and R6 first.
Camshaft Bearing Cap Removal.
4. Loosen camshaft bearing cap attaching bolts in sequence, one camshaft at a time.
5. Identify camshafts before removing from head. Camshafts are not interchangeable.

6. Reverse procedure to install. Using sequence shown, tighten camshaft bearing caps as follows:
a. Install right and left camshaft bearing caps No. 2 through No. 5 and right No. 6.
b. Install camshaft bearing caps No. 1 and No. 6.
Torque M6 bolts to 12 Nm (105 lbs. in.)
Torque M8 bolts to 28 Nm (250 lbs. in.)
