Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: Application and ID

Steering Column ID

The type of steering column can be identified by the type of clockspring used, as follows:

Chrysler Type:  Uses a setscrew and tether strap.

Fig. 92  Auto-Locking Type Clockspring, (Acustar Steering Column)

Acustar Type: 

Uses an automatic lock, which engages when the steering wheel is removed. 

Can be identified by the lack of a setscrew and tether strap.
