Equipment Safety Recall # 779 -- Mopar Running Board Tire Jack Extension
Models:
1996 and 1997 Model Year Dodge Caravan and Grand Caravan; Plymouth Voyager and Grand Voyager; and Chrysler Town & Country (NS) Vehicles
Equipped With Mopar Running Board Kits Installed Before January 1, 1997
The jack extension that was added to the vehicle's tire jack when the Mopar running boards were installed on about 13,000 of the above listed vehicles,
may allow the vehicle to fall off of the jack. This could result in an injury to the person using the jack. To correct this condition, the jack extension must
be removed and replaced with a pilot pin. In addition, the hoist jacking pads must be replaced on certain vehicles.
IMPORTANT:
Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer used vehicle inventory. Dealers should complete this recall service on these vehicles before retail
delivery. Dealers should also perform this recall on involved vehicles that are in for other service.
Dealer Notification & Vehicle List
All dealers will receive a copy of this dealer recall notification letter by first class mail. As Chrysler does NOT have a record of the vehicles that have
had the affected running board kits installed on them, no vehicle list can be provided for this recall.
DIAL System Functions 53 and VIP
As Chrysler does NOT have a record of the vehicles that have had the affected running board kits installed on them, affected vehicles will not be loaded
to Function 53 or VIP for this recall.
Parts
IMPORTANT:
A quantity of parts will be distributed initially and billed to all Dodge and Chrysler-Plymouth dealers. This quantity will cover a portion of the total
vehicles involved. Additional parts may be ordered as needed to support customer demand.
Each Dodge or Chrysler-Plymouth dealer will receive two (2) Jack Pilot Pin Packages, PN 82203535 and two (2) Hoist Jacking Pad Packages, PN
82203534.
All vehicles require installation of the jack pilot pin. In addition, all vehicles EXCEPT Dodge Caravan LE, Caravan ES, Grand Caravan LE and Grand
Caravan ES models require installation of larger hoist jacking pads. The above listed models are equipped with lower body side cladding and are already
equipped with the larger hoist jacking pads.
Owner Notification and Service Scheduling
IMPORTANT:
The Mopar Accessory running board kits were sold and/or installed on affected vehicles by Dodge and Chrysler-Plymouth dealers. As a result,
Chrysler does NOT have a record of the vehicles that have had the affected running board kits installed on them. Therefore, dealers are requested to
review their records and to contact owners of vehicles on which the Mopar Accessory running board kits were installed before January 1, 1997. A
recommended owner notification letter is included for the dealer mailing to involved minivan owners.
In addition, each dealer must post the enclosed informational poster that describes this issue for a minimum of six months, in a conspicuous area of the
customer service waiting area.
Completion Reporting and Reimbursement
Claims for vehicles which have been serviced must be submitted on the DIAL System. Claims submitted will be used by Chrysler to record recall service
completions and provide dealer payments.
