Neutral Safety Switch: Description and Operation
PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH
Circuit Operation
The neutral safety switch is used as an input to the Transmission Control Module (TCM), Powertrain Control Module (PCM), and as a switched
power feed to the coil side of the back-up lamp relay.
There are two switches located in this assembly.
Circuit T41 connects to the TCM and the PCM. This is used for neutral safety switch input. This portion of the switch is normally OPEN and case
grounded.
Circuit F11 supplies power to the neutral start portion of the switch. This circuit is HOT in the OFF/RUN/START position only and protected by a
10 amp fuse located in cavity 2 of the junction block.
Circuit F11 is spliced and supplies an ignition input to the TCM.
When this portion of the switch CLOSES, circuits F11 and T3 are connected. Circuit T3 connects from the switch to the TCM and the coil side of
the back-up lamp relay.
PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH INPUT (ATX)
Circuit Operation
On vehicles equipped with the ATX transmission, circuit T41 provides an input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on gearshift position.
Circuit T41 connects to cavity 76 of the PCM.
