A/C Compressor Failure
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing a new A/C compressor, A/C discharge line, A/C front liquid line and receiver/drier assembly and reprogramming the
Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Vehicles built prior to Oct. 23, 2000 will also require replacement of the A/C suction line extension.

THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO JAN. 8, 2001.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Accessory drive belt squealing or missing because of A/C compressor failure. The failure can occur after an extended period of driving at low speeds
during ambient temperatures at or above 95DF (35°C) with the A/C on and the control for rear A/C set to the "OFF" position.
DIAGNOSIS/REPAIR PROCEDURES:
If the A/C compressor is seized, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1.
Perform TSB 18-004-01 which reprograms the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
2.
Raise the hood. If the vehicle was built on or after to Oct.23, 2000 skip to step 7.
3.
Remove the fuel pump relay from the Integrated Power Module (IPM).
4.
Start the engine and let it run until it stalls.
5.
Disconnect the battery negative cable.
6.
Install the fuel pump relay and install the 1PM cover, insure the cover latches engage.
7.
Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system.
8.
Remove the air cleaner assembly. If the vehicle was built on or after to Oct. 23, 2000 skip to step 10.
9.
Disconnect the cowl plenum drain tube above the A/C lines and push it down and out of the way.
10.
Disconnect both NC liquid lines from the receiver/drier.
