Steering "Hiss" or "Swoosh" Sound
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves replacing the power steering return line hose.
MODELS:
2001 (RS) Town & Country/Voyager/Caravan
2001 (RG) Chrysler Voyager (International Markets)
NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO LEFT HAND DRIVE (LHD) VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 3.3L OR 3.8L ENGINE.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
At idle and with no steering wheel input, a steering hiss or swoosh sound is heard inside the vehicle.
DIAGNOSIS:
With the engine running at normal operating temperature, transmission in park, all windows closed, no steering wheel input, and all accessories turned
off, listen for a hiss or swoosh sound. Applying steering wheel input will reduce or eliminate the noise. It the hiss or swoosh sound is heard, perform the
Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1.
Remove the cap from the power steering fluid reservoir.
2.
Using a siphon pump, remove as much fluid as possible from the power steering fluid reservoir.
3.
Remove and save the spring clamp connecting the power steering return line hose to power steering fluid reservoir (Fig. 1).
