14. Lubricate the rubber O-rings on each end of the new power steering pressure hose with clean power steering fluid.
15. Install the new power steering pressure hose in the engine compartment.
16. Raise the vehicle on the hoist.
17. Install the power steering pressure hose to the steering gear port. Do not tighten the tube nut at this time.
18. Route the power steering pressure hose along right side of the engine cradle. Position pressure hose routing clamp over return hose routing clamp,
then install the screw securing hoses to right side of the engine cradle.
19. Tighten the power steering pressure hose tube nut at steering gear to 35 ft. lbs. (47 N.m) (Figure 23).
20. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.
21. Install the pressure hose to the power steering pump. Tighten the power steering pressure hose tube nut to 35 ft. lbs. (47 N.m).
22. Route the power steering pressure hose along the front of the engine cradle. Install the retaining screw through the routing clamp, securing the hose
to the front of the engine cradle.
23. Using Mopar Brake Cleaner or equivalent, clean off any spilled power steering fluid from the power steering pump.
24. Raise the vehicle on the hoist.
25. Using Mopar Brake Cleaner or equivalent, clean any spilled power steering fluid from the engine cradle and crossover.
26. Clean and install the plastic underbody shield.
27. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.
28. Install air cleaner housing, inlet air tube and engine cover (Figure 20).
29. Continue with Section I. Fill and Bleed the Power Steering Hydraulic System.
CAUTION:
If the air is not purged from the power steering system correctly, power steering pump failure could result.
I. Fill and Bleed the Power Steering Hydraulic System (All Models)
1. Check the power steering fluid level. As measured on the side of the power steering reservoir, the level should indicate between MAX and MIN when
the fluid is at normal ambient temperature. Adjust the fluid level as necessary.
WARNING: The power steering fluid level should be checked with engine off to prevent injury from moving components.
CAUTION: Only Mopar® Power Steering Fluid + 4 or Mopar® AT F+4 Automatic Transmission Fluid is to be used in the power steering system.
Damage may result to the power steering pump and system if another type of fluid is used. Do not overfill the system.
2. Tightly insert the Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Cap Adapter, Special Tool 9688, into the mouth of the power steering reservoir (Figure 24).
3. Attach a hand Vacuum Pump (Special Tool C-4207-A or equivalent) with separator/reservoir attached, to the Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Cap
Adapter (Special Tool 9688) (Figure 24).
