Steering Wheel: Service and Repair
Installation

INSTALLATION

NOTE: The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) may also be referred to as Electronic Stability Program (ESP) depending on the vehicle model

year and configuration. Certain components may also reference ESP, ESC, or use the traction control symbol.

1. Align the spline on the steering wheel hub to the column shaft, then install the steering wheel (1).
2. Install a NEW retainer bolt (2). Tighten the bolt to 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.).

3. Install the driver airbag (3). See: Restraint Systems/Air Bag Systems/Air Bag/Service and Repair/Driver Air Bag - Installation 
4. Install the negative battery terminal on the battery. It is important that this is performed properly (including calibration of steering angle sensor if

equipped with ESP). See: Starting and Charging/Battery/Service and Repair/Procedures/Battery System - Battery Reconnection 

CAUTION: If the steering wheel is excessively off-center while driving, outside of Chassis specifications, inadvertent ESC activations may

occur on a vehicle so equipped.

5. Test the operation of the horn, lights and any other functions that are steering column operated.
