Starter Motor: Service and Repair
Starter - Removal

6.1L

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the two heat shield nuts (2) and remove the heat shield (3).

4. Remove the three starter mounting bolts (1).
5. Move the starter motor (2) towards the front of vehicle far enough for the nose of starter to clear. Always support the starter motor (2) during this

process. Do not let the starter motor hang from the wire harness.

6. Remove the battery cable-to-solenoid nut.
7. Remove the solenoid wire from the solenoid stud.
8. Remove the starter motor.
