Water Pump: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove radiator cap and drain cooling system from water pump drain plug.
3. Remove pump to block coolant hose at water pump.
4. Loosen alternator/water pump drive belt, then remove pump pulley.
5. Remove 4 pump to crankcase extension screws and pull assembly from crankcase.

INSTALLATION

1. Position water pump on crankcase extension with new gasket.
2. Install 4 pump to crankcase extension screws and torque to 9 ft. lbs.
3. Install pump to block hose and torque clamp to 35 inch lbs.
4. Install drain plug and torque to 13 ft. lbs.
5. Install pump pulley and adjust belt tension to specifications, then refill cooling system.
