Dashpot: Adjustments

Dash Pot Adjustment Screw Locations

1. Confirm initial inspection conditions:

a.

Engine coolant temperature is 185-205°F.

b.

Lights, cooling fan and all accessories are OFF.

c.

Transmission is in NEUTRAL or PARK.

d.

Steering wheel is in straight-ahead position, (on vehicles with power steering).

2. START and RUN the engine at idle.

3. Open the throttle valve the full stroke of the dash pot rod until the free lever contacts the SAS 3 adjustment screw.

4. Close the throttle valve until the SAS 2 adjustment screw just comes into contact with the free lever. Check the engine speed at that point.
5. If the engine speed is not as specified, adjust the dash pot speed by turning the SAS 3.

Dash Pot Operating RPM:   Approx. 1,800 RPM

6. Release the free lever and verify that the engine returns to idle speed slowly.
