Colt L4-1410cc 1.4L SOHC (1984)
CALIPER OVERHAUL
1.
Remove snap ring and spring, then remove lever cap from caliper body groove.
2.
Remove parking brake lever with lever cap from caliper body.
3.
Rotate auto adjuster spindle counterclockwise and remove from caliper.
4.
Using a screwdriver, remove caliper piston dust boot snap ring, then push piston and boot from caliper body.
5.
Press bearing from caliper using tool No. MB990665, if necessary.
6.
Using a screwdriver, remove piston seal from caliper bore. Use care when removing seal not to damage caliper bore.
7.
Clean brake components with clean brake fluid.
8.
Apply Niglube RX-2 or equivalent to inner surface of adjuster spindle bearing, then using tool No. MB990665, press bearing into spindle bore
until stamped surface of bearing is flush with caliper body.
9.
Install caliper piston seal into caliper bore, then apply Rubber Grease H151-59 or equivalent to inner surface of caliper bore.
10.
Install caliper piston into caliper bore using care not to twist piston seal.
11.
Apply Niglube RX-2 grease or equivalent to piston boot groove on caliper body, then install piston boot and snap ring.
12.
Position seal on adjuster spindle, then lubricate seal with clean brake fluid.

13.
Install lock washers on adjuster spindle as shown, then apply Niglube RX-2 or equivalent to contact surfaces of lock washer and caliper. Thread
adjuster into piston.
14.
After pressing in lock washers using tool No. MB990666, use a screwdriver to rotate and press in adjuster spindle.
15.
Position lever cap onto parking lever, then install parking brake lever on caliper body.
16.
Apply Niglube RX-2 grease or equivalent to inner surfaces of lever cap, then install lever cap over caliper body.
CALIPER & BRAKE PAD INSTALLATION
1.
Using tool No. MB990652, push back on caliper piston while turning slightly clockwise to position piston in caliper. The groove on the piston
must be positioned so that projection on rear of brake pad fits securely into groove.
2.
Install brake pad clips and brake pads on caliper support.
3.
Position caliper onto caliper support and install stopper plugs and retainer clips.
4.
Connect parking brake cable and brake hose to caliper, then bleed brake system and adjust parking brake.
5.
Install dust cover, then install wheel and tire assembly.
