Radiator Cooling Fan Motor Relay: Testing and Inspection

On Colt and Colt Hatchback models, the fan relay is located in the relay box which is installed on the left side toe board behind the corner panel. On Colt
Vista models, the relay box is located on the right front wheel house.

Using a suitable ohmmeter, check continuity between relay terminals as follows:

a. With relay de-energized, continuity should exist between terminals 2 and 4.
b. With relay energized and power supply (12 volts) connected to terminals 2 and 4 (positive end to terminal 2 and negative end to terminal 4)

continuity should exist.

c. With relay energized, continuity should exist between terminals 1 and 3.

If relay performance is not satisfactory, replace as necessary.
