Brake Caliper: Service and Repair
Front Caliper
One Piece Pin Type Caliper

BRAKE PADS REPLACE
1.
Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel assembly.
2.
Remove lower caliper slide pin, then lift caliper up and suspend it with wire.
3.
Remove brake pads along with inner and outer shims.
4.
Reverse procedure to install. Refer to torque specifications.
CALIPER REPLACE
1.
Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel assembly.
2.
Disconnect brake hose at caliper strut, then at brake caliper.
3.
Remove caliper support to steering knuckle attaching bolts, then front brake assembly.
4.
Remove brake pads and shims, then separate caliper body from caliper support.
5.
Reverse procedure to install. Refer to torque specifications.
CALIPER OVERHAUL
1.
Remove caliper assembly as outlined under "Caliper, Replace."
2.
Remove bushing from caliper support using slide pin, then cap and pin boot.
3.
Position a shop towel in caliper body, then apply compressed air through the brake hose fitting hole to remove piston and dust boot.
4.
Using a suitable screwdriver, remove piston seal.
5.
Inspect cylinder and piston for wear or damage and/or corrosion. Inspect caliper body and sleeve for wear.
6.
Install new piston seal into cylinder. The piston seal in repair kit is coated with a special grease, do not wipe it off.
7.
Apply suitable grease to lip of cylinder, then brake fluid to external surface of piston.
8.
Install new dust boot onto piston.
9.
Position end of dust boot into caliper body groove and install piston into caliper by hand. Take care not to damage piston. Ensure that end of dust
boot is fitted into piston groove.
10.
Apply a suitable grease to contact surface of slide pin, seat surface of cap for caliper support, and inside surface of pin boot.
11.
Install cap and pin boot to caliper support, then apply suitable grease to inside surface of bushing.
12.
Apply a suitable adhesive to lip of slide pin bushing, then install bushing into caliper support using slide pin.
13.
Apply brake fluid to threads of slide pin and a suitable grease to shank of slide pin, then install caliper body to caliper support.
