Fig. 51 Rocker arm, rocker arm shafts & camshaft replacement.
Replace rocker arms, rocker arm shafts and camshaft in numbered sequence shown in Fig. 51, noting the following:
1.
On 2.4L/4-143.5 engines, prior to removing rocker arms and shaft assemblies, install auto lash adjuster holder tool MD998443 or equivalent, to
prevent adjuster from dropping out.

Inspect auto lash adjuster as outlined under ``Auto Lash Adjuster Inspection.''
3.
Prior to installing the auto lash adjuster, prime the lash adjuster as follows:
a. Immerse the auto lash adjuster in clean diesel fuel.

b. Using a small wire, move plunger up and down four or five times while pushing down lightly on check ball to bleed out air, Fig. 31.
c. Insert lash adjuster from below ensuring not to spill out the diesel fuel inside.
d. Install auto lash adjuster holder tool No. MD998443 or equivalent.
4.
On all models, temporarily tighten rocker arm shaft so all rocker arms on inlet side do not push the valves.
