Press old valve guide from cylinder head toward lower surface using the special valve guide tool and press.

Ream each valve guide bore in cylinder head to the O.D. of replacement valve guide, Fig. 8. Never use a valve guide of the same size as the
removed guide.

Install new valve guide using special valve guide and stopper tools and press.

On all engines except 1991 1.5L/4-89.6, note that valve guides for intake and exhaust are of different lengths. Intake guides are 1.791 inches
(45.5 mm) long, exhaust guides are 1.988 inches (50.5 mm) long. On 1991 1.5L/4-89.6 engine, intake length is 1.732 inches and exhaust is 1.949
inches.

After installation of new valve guides, insert valve and ensure it slides freely, then check for proper clearance. If clearance is not correct, ream
valve guide until proper clearance is obtained. Refer to ``Specifications'' for stem to guide clearance.
