5. Scribe mating marks on differential case and drive gear, then loosen drive gear attaching bolts in diagonal sequence to remove drive gear.
6. Drive out lockpin with a punch and remove pinion gears, pinion washers, side gears, side gear spacers and differential case.
7. Scribe mating marks on drive pinion and companion flange. Mating marks should not be made to contact surfaces of companion flange and
propeller shaft.
8. Using side bearing puller tool No. MB990810 or equivalent, drive out drive pinion together with drive pinion spacer and drive pinion front shims.

9. Mount companion flange attached to taper roller bearing puller tool No. C-293-PA and bearing remover tool C-293-45 or equivalents in a vise as
shown. Pull drive pinion rear bearing inner race out of companion flange.
10. Remove drive pinion rear shim used for drive pinion height adjustment and drive pinion.
11. Remove oil seal, then drive out drive pinion front bearing from gear carrier.
12. Drive out drive pinion rear bearing outer race from gear carrier.
Inspection
1. Check companion flange for wear or damage.
2. Check oil seal for wear or deterioration.
3. Check bearing for wear and discoloration.
4. Check gear carrier for cracks.
5. Check drive pinion and drive gear for wear or cracks.
6. Check side gears, pinion gears and pinion shaft for wear or damage.
7. Check side gear spline for wear or damage.
Assembly
1. Apply multipurpose grease to lip of oil seal, then using installer bar tool No. C-4171 and oil seal installer tool No. MB991115 or equivalents,
press seal into gear carrier.
2. Using installer handle tool No. C-4171 and bearing installer tool Nos. MB990932 and MB990935 or equivalents, press drive pinion rear and front
bearing outer races into gear carrier.
