Differential Carrier Replacement

1. Remove axle shaft, refer to Transmission and Drivetrain/Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints/Axle Shaft, Conventional Fixed/Floating/Service

and Repair. 

2. Remove differential to propeller shaft connection, then support propeller shaft with wire.
3. Remove carrier attaching nuts, and strike lower part of differential carrier assembly with a square piece of lumber several times to remove

assembly. Loosen, do not remove upper nut to prevent differential from falling.

4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. When differential carrier is installed, apply semi-drying sealant to differential carrier mounting surface.
b. Torque propeller shaft nuts to 22-25 ft. lbs.
