This Technical Service Bulletin is issued to correct a battery charging system malfunction due to an improperly installed/ crimped "eye" connector that
causes the loss of charging.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION
The wiring harness "eye" terminal at the alternator "B" (battery) output stud may be partially crimped over the insulation. High resistance from an
improperly installed terminal may cause an unsteady or reduced rate of charge.
When diagnosing a charging system complaint, prior to any component replacement, check the "B" terminal connection. Discoloration at the terminal is
an indication of high resistance at the connection.
PARTS REQUIRED
Overlay Harness Repair Kit
PN MB530853
REPAIR PROCEDURE
It will be necessary to install the harness assembly as an overlay on the existing harness. It is important that the terminal ends of the existing harness be
removed, and the ends of the wires be taped back to the harness prior to installing the overlay.
1.
Remove the battery and the battery tray.
2.
Remove the relay box cover beneath the battery tray.
3.
Remove the existing alternator "eye" at the "B" terminal, cut the old "eye" off and tape the old alternator wire back against the existing harness.
