DISASSEMBLE

1.

Remove engine assembly refer to ENGINE then the front case, oil pump and silent shaft in numbered sequence shown noting the following: 
a.

Remove plug cap using plug wrench tool No. MB998162, or equivalent.

b.

Remove driven gear (22) by removing plug from left side of of engine block and insert a screwdriver 2.5 inches into plug hole, then remove
driven gear bolt (16).

c.

Remove front silent shaft bearing by using silent shaft bearing puller tool No. MD998371, or equivalent.

d.

Remove right and left rear silent shaft bearing by using silent shaft bearing puller tool No. MD998372, or equivalent. 

INSPECTION

1.

Check gear contacting surface of front case and oil pump cover for step wear. If wear is evident, replace front case.

2.

Check silent shaft journals for wear and damage. If excessive damage or wear is evident, check bearing. If necessary, replace silent shaft and/or
bearing. 

ASSEMBLE

1.

Install silent shaft in cylinder block.

2.

Install oil pump drive and driven gears in front case, ensuring that the gear timing marks are aligned.

3.

Using small end of oil seal guide tool No. MD998285 or equivalent, install crankshaft front oil seal. If crankshaft front oil seal is already
mounted to front case, use oil seal guide for protection of oil seal.

4.

Install front case.

5.

Insert a screwdriver through plug hole in left side of cylinder block to keep shaft in position, then torque bolt to 25-29 ft. lbs. 

6.

Install oil filter bracket assembly and gasket, then tighten front case bolts and oil filter bracket bolts to specifications.

7.

Install plug cap.

8.

Install oil screen and gasket, then clean gasket surfaces of cylinder block and oil pan.

9.

Install oil pan gasket, if equipped, using a small amount of suitable gasket sealant. If no gasket is used, apply a 0.16 inch (4 mm) wide bead of
suitable sealant to entire circumference of oil pan flange.

10.

Install oil pan and tighten bolts to specifications. Note difference in bolt length shown.
