3. Check to ensure that when center of span on tension side is depressed with index finger in direction of arrow, tension of belt is up to specification.
Standard value: 5-7 mm (0.20 - 0.28 in.)
INSTALLATION OF TIMING BELT
1. Ensure that the timing marks of the cam shaft sprocket, the crank shaft sprocket, and the oil pump sprocket are all aligned.
2. Place the upper end of the tensioner spring against the water pump body. With oil pump sprocket timing marks aligned, remove plug from left
hand side of cylinder block and insert a screwdriver with a shaft diameter of 0.3 inch. If screwdriver can be inserted 2.4 inches or more, alignment
is correct. If screwdriver can be inserted only 1.0 inch, rotate oil pump sprocket one revolution and realign timing marks. Then check to ensure
that screwdriver can be inserted 2.4 inches or more. This check is performed to ensure that silent shaft and oil pump sprocket are properly
positioned. Leave screwdriver inserted in hole until after timing belt has been installed.
3. Move tensioner fully toward water pump and temporarily secure tensioner.
4. Install timing belt. While making sure that tension side of belt is not slackened, install timing belt onto crankshaft sprocket, oil pump sprocket and
