Idle Position Switch: Testing and Inspection
Motor Position Switch Test
1.
Disconnect the Motor Position Sensor (MPS) electrical connector.
2.
Using a suitable ohmmeter measure the resistance between terminals 2 and 3. Resistance should be between 4-6 k ohms.
^
If the resistance is within limits go to step 2.
^
If the resistance is not within limits replace the Idle Speed Control (ISC) motor. SEE IDLE SPEED CONTROL (ISC) MOTOR
REPLACEMENT.
3.
Turn ignition switch to Lock, then disconnect the ISC motor connector.
4.
Turn ignition switch ON, then apply approximately 6 volts (DC) or lower between terminals 1 and 2 of ISC motor connector, and measure the
resistance between terminals 3 and 5 of the MPS connector when the ISC motor is activated (caused to expand and contract).
NOTE: Do not apply voltage over 6 volts as higher voltage could lock up ISC motor gears.
5.
MPS output voltage should change smoothly during ISC motor operation, between .5 and 5 volts.
6.
If there is a deviation from the standard value, or it doesn't change smoothly, replace the ISC motor assembly. SEE IDLE SPEED CONTROL
(ISC) MOTOR REPLACEMENT.
