This repair applies only to Ram 50 trucks built prior to October 21, 1986.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Poor radio reception, intermittent reception, static, or noise from radio.
DIAGNOSIS
1.
Using a circuit tester, check for continuity between antenna mast and body.. Continuity indicates an antenna core cable and shield wire are shorted
and must be replaced.
2.
Plug in a known good antenna to verify condition and, if corrected, replace antenna cable.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
Following service manual procedures, replace the antenna cable noting the following differences.

The original antenna was held in place by several clips on the floor pan, and was installed directly on the floor pan underneath the silencer pad as
shown in Figure 1.
