Canister Purge Solenoid: Description and Operation
The Purge Control Solenoid Valve is controlled by the Control Unit in response to input signals from the Intake Air Temperature Sensor and the Coolant
Temperature Sensor.
When engine coolant is below operating temperature, or during idle, the purge control solenoid valve remains closed by spring pressure, preventing fuel
vapors from being purged from the charcoal canister.
Once the engine has reached operating temperature and is past idling speed, the Control Unit grounds the purge solenoid circuit, opening the purge
control solenoid valve. At this time to fuel vapors from the canister are drawn into the induction system to be burned.
