Steering Column: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
Remove steering column and shaft in numbered sequence, noting the following:
1.
To remove horn pad, proceed as follows:
a.
On type one horn pad, remove installation screw, then pull lower part of pad toward interior.
b.
On type two horn pad, remove installation screw, then move pad upward while pulling off of steering wheel.
2.
Use steering wheel puller tool No. DT-1001-A or equivalent to remove steering wheel.
3.
If only steering wheel is to be removed, scribe mating marks on steering shaft and steering wheel.
INSTALLATION
Install steering column and shaft, reversing numbered sequence, and noting the following:
1.
Attach dash panel cover and apply coating of Mopar Lock N'Seal adhesive (part No. 4057989) or equivalent, in bolt hole.
2.
Position front wheels in straight-ahead position before installing steering wheel.
