Heater Core: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, place heater control in warm position and drain cooling system, then disconnect heater hoses at firewall.
2. Remove instrument cluster as outlined.
3. Remove fuse box cover and fuse box.
4. Remove glove box assembly, then the defroster duct.
5. Disconnect air select, mode selector and temperature cables.
6. Remove speaker grilles and the parcel box and/or clock, as equipped.
7. Pry up cover at center front of instrument panel to gain access to attaching nut.
8. Remove cover from center instrument panel brace, shift knob and center console.
9. Remove instrument panel retaining nuts and bolts, disconnect necessary harness connectors, then remove instrument panel assembly. On models
with tilt wheel, position wheel at lowest possible position.
10. Remove air ducts and center instrument panel brace.
11. Remove heater housing retaining nuts, bolt and the housing assembly.
12. Remove hose cover from side of housing, then the hose clamp, connecting hose and heater core cover plate.
13. Withdraw heater core from housing.
14. Reverse procedure to install.
