Assemble steering column, reversing numbered sequence, noting the following:
1.
Install upper and lower shaft assemblies as follows:
a.
Place upper boot over upper shaft, then lower boot and dust cover over lower shaft.
b.
Apply multipurpose grease to upper and lower shaft assemblies.
c.
Ensure the tilt of yoke on lower shaft assembly in relation to yoke of upper shaft assembly is within specifications.
d.
To assemble upper and lower boots, align arrows on boots and slits on yokes.
2.
If steering lock was removed, proceed as follows:
a.
Install steering lock loosely onto steering column in alignment with column boss. Ensure steering lock operates properly.
b.
New special bolts must be used. Torque special bolts until heads twist off.
3.
Install tilt lever and tilt lever screw as follows:
a.
Apply multipurpose grease to screw thread, the install screw into lever.
b.
Fully screw lever onto lever screw, then install lever into lever bolt. Tilt lever is threaded in opposite direction.
c.
Ensure end of lever screw touches bracket stopper plate before attaching tilt lever.
d.
Ensure tilt steering is secured (locked) and free (unlocked) in position shown. If tilt steering is not operating properly, adjust position of tilt
lever screw end which touches stopper plate.
