Remove drive gear thrust bearing from forward end of mainshaft.

Remove 4th speed clutch gear and synchronizer stop ring from mainshaft.

Position gear case as shown, then reach into gear case and push reverse idler gear away from mainshaft gears.
8.
Remove mainshaft assembly as follows:
a.
Lift front end of mainshaft slightly.
b.
Grab mainshaft rear splines, then turn spline end of mainshaft in counterclockwise direction to rotate shaft and gear train out of case.
c.
Once mainshaft gears roll clear of countershaft gears, shaft and gear assembly can be tilted outward and removed from gear case.
ASSEMBLY

1.
Position gear case so case opening is facing upward as shown.
2.
Grip mainshaft at pilot bearing hub and just behind rear bearing, then lift assembly and guide rear of shaft through bearing bore at rear of case.
Continue holding front of shaft but switch grip at rear to shaft splines. Lift mainshaft assembly slightly, align gears and seat assembly in case.
Ensure fourth speed clutch gear and stop ring were not displaced during installation.
