THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A DIESEL ENGINE
MODELS:
1991-1992 (AD) Ram Pickup/Ram Cab & Chassis
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some vehicles may exhibit poor engine performance, erratic engine operation, or transmission hunting. This condition may be caused by corrosion or
spreading of the female terminals in the 3-way throttle position sensor wiring harness connector.
DIAGNOSIS:
With the ignition in the OFF position, disconnect the negative battery cable. Disconnect and inspect the 3-way throttle position sensor wiring harness
connector for corrosion (the throttle position sensor should be replaced if the male terminals are corroded). Using the male terminal (PN 34127209) from
the parts package listed below, check the female terminals for spreading. The male terminal should fit snugly into the female terminal. A connector that
shows signs of corrosion or spread terminals should be replaced using the following procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin outlines replacing the 3-way throttle position sensor wiring connector.
1.
Remove about 50 mm (2") of tape from the 3-way wiring harness connector.
2.
Remove and discard the original 3-way connector by cutting the wires of the connector at staggered lengths.
3.
Strip one inch of insulation from each of the cut wires on the wiring harnesses.
4.
Slide a piece of heat shrink tubing, PN 4419644, onto each of the wires.
5.
Cut the wires on the new 3-way connector at staggered lengths so that the final length of the harness will be the same as the original.
6.
Strip one inch of insulation from the 3-way connector wires and twist the bare ends of the wires to the mating wires on the wiring harness. (Be sure
to match wire colors.)
7.
Solder the wires together using a ROSIN CORE SOLDER.
8.
Center the piece of heat shrink tubing over each solder joint and heat the tubing until it shrinks and sealant comes out of both ends.
9.
Retape the wiring harness and connect the 3-way connector to the throttle position sensor.
