Install Puller and Bolts tool No. 6444 or equivalent, on puller rods, then secure puller to rods with retaining nuts.
g.
Tighten puller bolt to remove gear from shaft splines.

Remove bolts retaining mainshaft rear bearing plate to gear case, then 5th gear, plate, endplay shims and bearing cup.

Remove front bearing retainer retaining bolts.

Remove front retainer by lightly tapping it back and forth with a plastic mallet to loosen it, then rock retainer back and forth by hand to work it out
gear case. Note that retainer flange extends into and is fairly snug fit in case bore.
