2.

Remove the torque converter drive plate.

3.

Install the new drive plate, PN 04429607, and backing plate, PN 04429753.

4.

Using a star pattern torque sequence, Figure 1, tighten the drive plate to crankshaft bolts to 101 ft. lbs. (137 N-m) torque.

5.

Remove the torque converter from the transmission.

6.

Install the new torque converter, PN 53008136.

NOTE :

USE CARE WHEN INSTALLING THE TORQUE CONVERTER TO PREVENT DAMAGING THE
TRANSMISSION PUMP SEAL.

7.

Install the transmission.

8.

Start engine, adjust transmission fluid level as required.

9.

Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperatures. Adjust the transmission throttle cable as outlined on page 21-4 in the 1989 Diesel
Supplement Manual, Publication No. 81-370-9008A.
