1.

Using Installer Tool No. 6446 or equivalent, seat mainshaft 5th gear on shaft. Gear is seated when it contacts rear bearing.

Install 5th gear nut washer. Cone side of washer faces end of shaft.

Apply 3-4 drops of Mopar Loc N' Seal or Loctite 242 to nut threads on mainshaft.

Install 5th gear nut on mainshaft, then tighten 5th gear nut as much as possible with Nut Wrench tool No. 6443, Long Handle Ratchet, Breaker Bar
and Socket Wrench tool No. 6441 or 6442 or equivalents.

5.

Lock mainshaft gears by shifting all synchronizer sleeves into engaged position.

Position Spline Socket Wrench tool No. 6441 or 6442 or equivalents, on mainshaft splines, then install breaker bar in socket wrench and wedge
bar against workbench.

7.

Torque 5th gear nut with Nut Wrench tool No. 6443 or equivalent, and High Capacity Torque Wrench to 250-350 ft. lbs. Have assistant hold
transmission steady if necessary. Nut can also be tightened by striking wrench with heavy copper mallet, then checking with torque
wrench.
