DISCUSSION
Some A-518 transmissions may experience premature wearing of the low/reverse band. This condition may be the result of one of the overdrive to
transmission mounting bolts making light contact with the band strut resulting in an incomplete release of the band.
To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring a washer was installed in production on the overdrive to transmission mounting bolt located at the
THREE O'CLOCK POSITION, Figure 1. The washer entered transmission production in September 1989, beginning with date code 0283.
If a transmission experiences premature wearing of the low/reverse band or when performing any servicing operation that requires the removal of the
overdrive unit from the transmission be sure the overdrive mounting bolt located in the three O'clock position has a washer installed between the bolt
head and the overdrive housing.
If there was no washer on the bolt at the three O'clock position, install a 3/8 inch zinc coated lock washer such as PN J0120382.
