AN - DODGE DAKOTA/DAKOTA SPORT (RWD, 4WD)

1989 AN trucks are now being produced with the caster and camber preset to specification. As a result caster and camber can no longer be adjusted by
simply loosening components. It is necessary to remove the upper control arm from the frame and knock out the "Net Plugs" in the frame which will then
provide the necessary adjustment slots. There are no parts required. Use the following procedure in the unlikely event that front end alignment is
required.

NOTE:

RARELY WILL IT BE NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE "NET PLUGS" AND ADJUST CASTER OR CAMBER. IF THE TRUCK
HAS OPERATED SOME TIME WITH NO PREVIOUS ALIGNMENT RELATED PROBLEMS, THEN CHECK FOR WORN OR
BENT COMPONENTS AND CORRECT PRIOR TO PERFORMING A WHEEL ALIGNMENT.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1.

Raise vehicle and support so that front suspension is not supported and is free. (Preferably, this operation can be performed on a front end rack.)

2.

Support the lower control arms with jacks.

3.

Remove the inner fender rubber splash shields.

4.

With the lower control arm supported on a jack, remove the upper pivot arm attaching nuts.

CAUTION:

DO NO ALLOW THE PIVOT ARM SHAFTS TO PASS OVER THE SHOCK TOWER MOUNTING STUDS OR
BRAKE LINE DAMAGE COULD RESULT.

5.

Remove upper control arm pivot bolts.

6.

Punch out the "Net Plugs" in the frame.

7.

Reinstall the pivot bolts and nuts.

8.

Align front end per the appropriate Service Manual instructions.

9.

Reinstall rubber splash shields.
