To ensure that leakage will not occur, your dealer will inspect the transfer case and confirm that a snap ring used to retain the front output shaft bearing is
seated properly. If necessary, the dealer will reposition the snap ring.
The inspection will take only a few minutes. If a repair is required, the work can be completed in about one our. However, additional time may be
required depending on how service appointments are scheduled and processed. To arrange for this important service:

sold you the truck. However, if necessary, the service can be performed by any Dodge or Chrysler-Plymouth dealer.

Take the enclosed Owner Recall Notification Form with you at the time of your appointment and give it to your dealer. The form identifies
the vehicle and recall for which service is required.

Assistance" in your Operator's Manual.) A Zone representative will arrange for prompt servicing of your truck.

1989 Dodge Dakota Trucks With 4 Wheel Drive -- Vehicle Build Dates Between March 2 and March 14, 1989
Due to an improperly installed transfer case snap ring, the front oil seal on the listed model vehicles may leak at low mileage. To prevent this from
occurring, involved vehicles must be inspected to identify and repair transfer cases built during the suspect period.
Important:
Some of the involved vehicles may still be in dealer stock. Be sure to complete the service on these vehicles before retail delivery.

Vehicle List
Each dealer to whom involved vehicles were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same location) will receive a listing of them with this letter, arranged
in Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) sequence. Owners known to Chrysler are also listed. The lists are for dealer reference in arranging for service of
involved vehicles.
Each Dodge and Chrysler-Plymouth dealer without a Vehicle List will receive an information copy of this letter by Compak Mail for use in performing
the service on involved vehicles upon request.
Parts
Parts packages, P/N C3940345, are being shipped free of charge to all involved dealers for service of affected vehicles. Each dealer to whom involved
vehicles were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same location) will receive enough parts packages to service 20% of those vehicles.
Note:
Only about 1/6 of the vehicles inspected will require repair. The initial parts shipment should meet these requirements.
